From Promises to Progress
When I ran for DFL Outreach Officer, I promised to focus on providing practical support for local leaders, strengthening relationships across our Party, improving accessibility, and equipping DFLers with the tools they need to organize, lead, and navigate conflict.
Since taking office, I have worked with volunteers, Outreach Officers, community caucus leaders, committee members, and DFLers across Minnesota to turn those commitments into action.
Over my first year in office, I convened nine meetings of the Outreach & Inclusion Committee and held two statewide listening sessions with Outreach Officers, creating more opportunities for local leaders to share what they were seeing, what support they needed, and where the Party could do better.
I led the development of the 2025–2027 Statewide Outreach & Inclusion Plan, which was approved by the State Central Committee with 96% support. The plan created a stronger framework for our approach to outreach and inclusion across the Party and helped establish clearer expectations for sustained, meaningful work.
I created a new Outreach Officer 101 training program and an accompanying Outreach Officer Guidebook to give new and returning officers clearer guidance and practical tools. More than 60 Outreach Officers and other interested DFLers have now participated in these trainings.
I also launched DFLOutreach.org, creating a central home for training recordings, outreach resources, accessibility materials, de-escalation tools, grant information, and other practical resources for DFL leaders and volunteers.
Accessibility has been a major focus of my work. I helped launch the Accessibility Subcommittee, bringing together DFLers with lived experience and party leaders to identify barriers and develop practical solutions. That work resulted in an Accessibility Best Practices Guide for Conventions and Other Large Events and a Convention Accessibility Scorecard designed to help local units identify barriers before their events begin.
Following the 2026 DFL State Convention, I began working with the Accessibility Subcommittee on a comprehensive post-convention accessibility review, drawing on feedback, conversations, and the experiences of convention participants to identify lessons and develop recommendations for future State Conventions and other large-party events.
I have expanded the Party’s training opportunities around de-escalation, safety planning, and restorative practices, helping DFL leaders and volunteers recognize early warning signs of conflict, respond to disruptive behavior, plan safer events, and think more intentionally about repairing harm.
In the lead-up to the 2026 State Convention, I held two convention-specific de-escalation trainings and provided de-escalation support at the convention itself. I was also honored to serve as an Assistant Co-Chair of the 2026 DFL State Convention.
I launched a pilot DFL Mentoring Project, pairing newer DFLers with experienced activists and party leaders who could help them better understand Party structures, build relationships, and find pathways into leadership. The idea was simple: people who want to get involved should not have to figure everything out on their own.
I have continued supporting the DFL Outreach Grant Program, helping local units develop stronger outreach projects and applications. I have held an Outreach Grant Best Practices session focused on clear goals, realistic budgets, community relationships, reducing barriers to participation, and meaningful follow-up.
I have also continued working with community caucus leaders, Outreach Officers, and local units to strengthen communication, share resources, and build stronger relationships across our Party.
Throughout my time in office, I have traveled across Minnesota to meet with DFLers, attend and support organizing unit and congressional district conventions, and better understand the different challenges and opportunities facing local parties. During the 2026 convention season, I had the privilege of serving conventions in roles including Chair and Parliamentarian.
Across all of this work, my focus has remained the same: creating practical infrastructure that helps people participate, lead, and belong.
There is still much more work ahead. But together, we have built new trainings, stronger accessibility tools, a mentoring program, statewide resources, better support for Outreach Officers, and new systems that local leaders can actually use.
The work continues.
